How to find your image's pixel size

On iPhone, open the photo, swipe up or tap the info button, and the dimensions sit under the filename. On a Mac, select the file and press Command-I. On Windows, right-click and open Properties, then Details. Two numbers, width and height; that is all the calculator needs.

Where the grades come from

Print sharpness is pixels divided by inches. 300 PPI is the standard labs assume for handheld prints. 240 PPI is nearly indistinguishable from it in a frame. 150 PPI is honest for wall display because nobody studies a framed enlargement from ten centimetres away. The calculator shows all three so you can match the grade to how the print will actually be seen, not to a lab's default.

Common questions

What PPI do I need for printing photos?
300 PPI is the standard for prints viewed in the hand, and it is what photo labs assume. 240 PPI is genuinely hard to tell apart at normal viewing distance. Framed on a wall and viewed from a metre or more, 150 PPI still looks sharp.
Is DPI the same as PPI?
In everyday use, yes. Strictly, PPI describes pixels in a digital image and DPI describes dots a printer or scanner lays down. Scanner settings say DPI, print-quality maths uses PPI, and this calculator follows that convention.
Can I print bigger than the calculator says?
You can print anything at any size; the question is how close someone can stand before it softens. The wall-display grade already accounts for viewing distance. Beyond that, the honest options are a better scan of the original or AI enhancement of the file you have.
My scan is too small for the print I want. What now?
If you still have the original print, rescan it at a higher DPI; that is always the best answer. If the file is all that survives, enhancement in the app can rebuild detail convincingly, especially in faces, though it is reconstruction rather than recovery.
